Jewellery Care

Good care will help your jewellery look its best for longer. Different materials respond differently to wear, moisture, chemicals and polishing, so the right care depends on the piece.

General Care

Avoid contact with perfumes, hairspray, lotions, chlorine and harsh household chemicals.

Remove jewellery before swimming, exercising or sleeping to help minimise knocks, scratching and build-up.

After wear, gently wipe pieces with a soft, dry cloth and store them separately in a dry place to help protect the surface and reduce tangling, scratching and tarnish.

9ct Gold

9ct gold is designed for regular wear, but it can still mark, scratch or lose some surface shine over time.

To keep your 9ct gold jewellery looking its best:

  • avoid perfumes, lotions, chlorine and harsh chemicals
  • remove before swimming, exercising or sleeping
  • gently wipe after wear with a soft, dry cloth
  • store separately to help reduce scratching

For a deeper clean, use a suitable jewellery-cleaning product designed for solid gold, following the product instructions carefully.

Sterling Silver

Sterling silver can naturally tarnish over time, particularly when exposed to moisture, air, perfumes and skincare products.

To care for sterling silver:

  • store in a dry place when not being worn
  • wipe gently after wear
  • use a suitable silver polishing cloth when needed
  • avoid abrasive cleaners that may scratch the surface

Tarnish is a natural characteristic of sterling silver and can usually be refreshed with appropriate care.

Gold-Plated Sterling Silver

Gold-plated sterling silver has a layer of gold applied over a sterling silver base.

The plated finish will naturally soften over time depending on wear, moisture, skin chemistry and exposure to cosmetics or chemicals.

To help preserve the finish:

  • avoid perfumes, lotions and hairspray
  • remove before showering, swimming, exercising or sleeping
  • avoid abrasive polishing cloths and harsh cleaners
  • wipe gently with a soft, dry cloth after wear
  • store separately in a dry place

Wear over time is normal for plated jewellery and is not considered a manufacturing fault.

Pearls

Pearls are naturally more delicate than many other jewellery materials.

To protect pearls:

  • avoid perfumes, hairspray and cosmetics
  • put pearl jewellery on last when dressing
  • wipe gently with a soft cloth after wear
  • avoid soaking in water or using ultrasonic cleaners
  • store separately from harder jewellery that may scratch the surface

Natural variation in shape, colour and surface is part of the character of genuine pearls.

Gemstones & Cubic Zirconia

Gemstones and cubic zirconia can collect oils, lotions and everyday residue around the setting.

To care for them:

  • avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners
  • gently wipe after wear
  • use a soft brush only where suitable and with care around settings
  • avoid impact or pressure that may loosen stones

If a stone appears loose, stop wearing the piece until it has been checked.

Storage

Store jewellery individually where possible, particularly chains, pearls and plated pieces.

A soft pouch, jewellery box or separate compartment helps reduce scratching, tangling and unnecessary wear.

Keep jewellery away from prolonged humidity and direct exposure to household chemicals.

When to Seek Professional Care

If a clasp, stone setting or component appears loose or damaged, avoid wearing the piece until it has been inspected.

For heavily tarnished, scratched or worn jewellery, professional cleaning or repair may be the safest option.
